(EDITOR ON THE ROAD. PLEASE FORGIVE SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION. DID THIS FROM MY PHONE. I'M SCREWED WITHOUT SPELLCHECK. YOU SHOULD SEE ME WHEN I'M EATING ALPHABET SOUP!)
TTH: Today I am going to ask you 3 random questions just to mix things up a little.
Amaru: Okay.
TTH: Given all the things you have gone through in your life which we will dig into on later blogs, why do you keep going?
Amaru: Four words! I'm in too deep!
TTH: Care to elaborate?
Amaru: That's one of the 3 questions right?
TTH: Today I'm going to ask you 4 random questions. ;)
Amaru: lol! Okay, I've been in it too long, invested too much, sacrificed almost everything that means anything to me to get to what I truely believe to be my destiny.
TTH: Which is?
Amaru: Question number 3, I presume? Just kidding! To become and be recognized as a great filmmaker/story teller.
Not only that, my kids are watching me. I can't keep feeding them the line, "You can do anything you put your mind to!" if I don't. Kids nowadays will let you know. "You didn't do it so why should I try?" Plus, I want them to be proud of me.
TTH: Question number 2. Who are you most diappointed in that you have crossed paths with or that you admire?
Amaru: That's easy. Myself!
TTH: Would you...
Amaru: ...I know, care to elaborate? Yeah, I will. The best way to explain what I mean... You know how when you write something out, maybe a letter to someone important and in your mind you are certain everything checks out because, you wrote it. It came from your mind and it flowed in your head so logically you think everything came out right. I don't have to spell check it or proof read. The moment you hit send it's too late! Low and behold it has flaws up the wazzoo! But, it's too late! You hope they look beyound the mistakes and look at the message. We all know what they say about first impressions.
Well, I'm dissapointed in myself the most because their are some things I should have proof read in my life in regards to my career and ended marrige. Meaning I should have read and reviewed the marrige situation before jumping into it. In the moment it sounded good but when I said, I do, it was too late. I had to deal with the errors.
In regards to my career, I would have spent more time studying the business side and the art of picking the right battles to champion. Once you send it out, you have to deal with the errors!
TTH: Interesting analogy. Question number 3. What is your real name?
Amaru: I knew that was coming! Not because I asked it either! It was inevitable. My real name is Omar D. Lewis, Sr. aka Odie (OD) Lewis aka Rakim aka the Roc (before Jay Z and the Rock) aka Young 'Ru aka Mista Woosaa reinventing yourself since middle school is a bitch!
I do music as well. Odie was a camp name. I took on Amaru to pay my respects to the man who inspired me to continue writing and that man is the late greatist rapper of all time, Tupac Amaru Shakur. Mista Woosaa is my music persona. Switched it from Young 'Ru because a cat in Detroit had that name.
My voice on the mic is different then any other hip-hop artist out there! You can listen and not be able to say, he sounds like so and so. Different is hard to swallow sometimes. Takes some gettin used too. I have a unique hip-hop voice and sound so I wanted a unique name. Mista Woosaa is a character I created from one of my favorites, the "Bad Boyz II" movie. When the music around you is horrible just frab your ears and call my name, WOOOOSAAA! and I'll be there! (With the click of a mouse)
In retrospect, I'm glad I changed it. I saw on the news a terrorist with the name Omar. That's all I need at the airport is another reason to be held up. Thinkin about it, Amaru ain't no better. But in too deep now. Been Amaru 10 years now. To change it back would mean re branding and that can take a while in the comedy circuit.

Interview with Myself... @therealamaru
TTH: Who are you?
Amaru: I am a man driven by the need to teach and show my children by example that they can succeed and not become a statistic.
TTH: Where are you from?
Amaru: I was born in Gary, Indiana and raised primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. I also spent some of my childhood in Arizona.
TTH: You say you have been doing Stand Up for 10 years. Why are you not famous? A lot of people have never heard of you. Which begs the question, are you funny?
Amaru: Wow! That's a loaded question and I'm the one asking them! Okay, the first part. Why am I not famous? Well, I have learned in this business that it's all about opportunity meets preparation. I've had many opportunities early on but like a teenager coming into their own you think you're ready when you're really not. Am I funny enough to be famous? I think so. I'm not funny just to be famous. Meaning, I don't do comedy just to be famous or the wealth... anymore. We all at some point in time have dreams bigger then life itself. I do it because I sincerely enjoy making people laugh. It is the truest form of joy. I come from a rough childhood as have a lot of Americans. I found that talking about it in a comedic format is a release for people who have gone through the same thing. A connection is made and now you have a new friend who's been on that ride before. If you get into this business just for the money and fame you'll lose everytime! This is an art form and should be respected! I've paid my dues and in due time you'll hear of me.
TTH: Do you think you will be famous?
Amaru: What do you consider to be famous? iLike "Drake" says, "I just wanna be successfull". (And a friend of mine said to me the other day) I think I will make it to where I'm supposed to be.
TTH: ...and that is?
Amaru: ...to the top of my game. I think I will make household name status. I don't just do comedy. I write films and make music as well. My children need to learn to be leaders in a world of bad leaders. We need to reinforce to the kids today that it's cool to dream and reach for it and not the video game controller.
TTH: It says in your BIO you have been in the entertainement business for 15 years. You were homeless correct?
Amaru: Yes. For a short time.
TTH: How do you become homeless after being in the business for 15 years?
Amaru: Some of those 15 years was paying dues and doing favors to get my foot in the door. Like, maybe writing a spec script... for free! Or doing a show for free... after driving a million miles to get to that free gig. I can't count how many times driving 200 miles for 5 or 10 minutes paid off! My ultimate struggle was having kids at a young age. When you have children it doesn't stop you from moving forward but it sho does put a monkey wrench in your dreams and your wallet! A few times in my career I didn't have a place. My family always did but I had too much pride sometimes to except the help that may have been offered to me.
TTH: Why the lack of stability?
Amaru: Chasing the dream. Making sacrifices that sometimes were counter productive in regards to my family. No communication skills between my young bride and myself. Sometimes it would even be my way or the highway frame of mind. I wanted the world to see what I had to offer it so bad. Sometimes just down right selfish. Ain't no sugar coatin it. I was the man of the house. I'm supposed to do right by my family a hundred percent of the time. Sometimes it was 85% of the time. My father didn't show me how to be a man so I was winging it with the the example my Grandpa set but my association with him was only when my real mother took us over there. She sheltered us. She was a strict bible thumpin Jehovah's Witness. I don't know. I really didn't have the support needed from my spouse and I WANTED IT SO BAD! I don't care how this sounds but I wanted my wife to be proud of me. I would damn near beg for it. We were young when we got together and we didn't have a game plan. It just happened. I did, however, tell her from day one that one day I was going to be famous and her and her mother looked at each other and laughed in my face.
Here it is today, I've been on television, worked on films, music videos. I have had movie deals, I worked for Master P. I am a music publisher SESAC affiliate and I do stand up around the country for a living. Get this. she has never told me in 17 years, "I'm proud of you". Reminds me of being a kid. I don't remember my real mother ever saying that and surely my father didn't. One of my foster parents said it to me before but other then that. That's why I make sure I let my kids know, Daddy is proud of you when they make accomplishments. Even when they fail sometimes. They need a boost in moral sometimes.
TTH: Did all that have a price?
Amaru: It sure did.
TTH: What was that?
Amaru: My marrige! My family!

Hey! Happy New Years!
(this is the short form note i am sending to anyone that has a bar club hole in the wall etc.)
50 Clubs in 50 days Comedy Tour 2010
I am coming to you in hopes to get in any room you have in various states. Although I headline and feature I am willing to even MC to make this venture happen! This is my new years resolution.
I had it bad last year dealing with the end of a 17 year marrige. I myself ended up homeless. I can count on one hand who helped me out or tried. So I feel like I need to do this because this economy is hurting all of us, especially the homeless!
Anyway, this project is in its infancy stage and I will be hitting all my agencies up and sponsors. This will be big!
If you can help please give me a call or email me. I'm ready and waiting. If you go to www.myspace.com/therealamaru you will see my vids and schedule and see where you can help. I would like to start fresh and launch it in the fall. I have no dates starting in Oct.
If you would like to get involved any further then just booking please lt me know. This will be documented from beginning to end for a documentary. All dvd sales will go DIRECTLY TO THE HOMELESS!!!
Thank you for you time and consideration and you and your family have a blessed NY!!

A little about me... Amaru
AMARU BIO - Picture Bill Cosby raising his kid’s in the hood.
If you needed a license to be a Comic this guy has one. His father was a Pimp and his mother still is a Jehovah’s Witness. Need I say more? If that doesn’t earn him the right to do stand up nothing will. As a skilled and accomplished Screenwriter he can adapt to his environment and make any situation into a humorous story. His comedic story telling can be mesmerizing at times. The Screenwriter in him makes him visual but the kid and quick whit in him makes for a good time at any comedy club. His adolescence was spent in abusive situations and in and out of foster homes. He thought being in a foster home would be cool. He thought, Hey, it worked for Annie. But he forgot one thing. She was a cute little red head white girl. And hes a umm you’ll see him. The struggle began for this untapped and talented youth right out of High School. He joined the Military and when he got out he prayed to God and asked him to send him a beautiful woman so that he may blame her for his miserable life. He didn’t know he had to be specific. He just said beautiful. Later on, he experienced everything from being a Flight Attendant, Chemical Engineer to being a Body Guard. At the same time he began to explore his talents in Screenwriting and acting. Putting him at Hollywood premieres with the likes of Wesley Snipes, Jamie Foxx, Stephen Dorph and Shaq himself. Working on sitcoms and music videos such as THE PARKERS and JURASSIC 5s, THE INFLUENCE. Not bad, huh? As you know, with sudden success at a young age, a young wife, three kids, no guidance and real knowledge about life, came the problems of being a man without direction. Having children at a young age stunted and hindered his Hollywood growth. But as we all know, with failure comes success. In the mean time he’d began writing for a female comic known as, Celia Fox. He found Stand-up as a way to bring back his quick-witted high school, class clown antics. He saw how exciting and challenging Stand-up was and hopped on stage almost immediately. Three weeks after he began Stand-up he opened up for, Jurassic 5, at THE HOUSE OF BLUES in, Hollywood. This is almost unheard of in the business of Stand-up. Well, now you have him, a man who wasn’t handed a silver spoon in life. But was handed talents he had to learn to explore for the benefit of a family he wanted to have at a young age. Maybe he wanted to be validated as a man? Nevertheless, he learned about life the hard way and is able to turn tragedy into humor. Here is a man who is on the brink of stardom, who will definitely leave a mark in the entertainment world and spread his comedic message I SHOULD’VE PULLED OUT!!
